RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends City Council approval of the dedication of approximately 380 square feet of right of way to the Arkansas Department of Transportation for use on the Hwy 16 (College Ave. - Huntsville Road) project and authorize the Mayor to sign all documents related to the dedication of this right of way. BACKGROUND: ArDOT is currently constructing a project for the widening of Highway 16 (151" Street) from S. School Avenue to Armstrong Drive. The proposed project includes widening the existing roadway to 4 lanes with bike lanes and sidewalks. The City owns property as right of way for Wood Avenue. A portion of this property will be needed by ArDOT for right of way to construct the roadway improvements. DISCUSSION: ArDOT has presented the City with offers for a portion of this land as follows: 1) Tract 10, located on the north side of Hwy 16 (15t" Street) at the southern right-of- way of Wood Avenue and consists of approximately 300 square feet of right of way (ROW). ArDOT has offered $325.00 for the ROW. Many times, in the past, the City has dedicated ROW to ArDOT for highway widening projects. Usually this ROW is a conversion from City ROW to State ROW. It appears that the intended purpose of this parcel was to be used as street and highway right of way. Therefore, staff recommends that the City dedicate these rights of way at no cost to ArDOT.
