MEETING MINUTES
Meeting of the Black Heritage Preservation Commission
February 16, 2023 6:30 PM

NOTE: The February 16, 2023 Black Heritage Preservation Commission meeting was held
virtually and in person, with commissioners attending remotely or in person. Staff were
present in person.
Members: Council Member D'Andre Jones, Chair J.L. Jennings, Vice Chair Lois Bryant, Kaleb
Turner, and Shawn Walker
City Staff: Britin Bostick - Long Range Planning & Special Projects Manager
In Attendance: Chair J.L. Jennings, Vice Chair Lois Bryant, Kaleb Turner, Wendell Huggins,
and Britin Bostick
The meeting was not called to order and no action taken as a quorum of
commissioners was not present. The Commissioners present did receive information
from The city's Arts & Culture Director Joanna Bell on the Arts Commission's plans for
a series of murals on the retaining wall on what will be Nelson Hackett Blvd, looked at
possible installation locations for the Nelson Hackett historical marker to be
coordinated with city staff, and discussed inviting Michael Pierce to a future meeting to
coordinate an unveiling ceremony for the marker. Staff informed the Commissioners
present that they would receive a draft copy of the Citywide Heritage & Historic
Preservation Master Plan prior to next month's meeting. The February agenda items
will be moved to the March meeting.
