I had an event tonight requiring me from dropping off of the Zoom council meeting at 6:30.
I live & work in Fayetteville in the Information Technology sector where I work as a part time Chief Technology Officer
for various companies.
Executives that I work with do not want to stay in a room with camouflage carpet and find the beds they’re
uncomfortable in the only downtown hotel we have. Instead they stay in the only other option, on Weddington.... or
another city with more hotel options, which pulls work meetings up to Rogers/Bentonville.
Having travelled for work in the tech sector extensively, I love staying in cities where I can walk from the hotel to
food/entertainment... adjacent to a city square / civic center is even better. Some cities like Cincinnati & Minneapolis
nail this and Tulsa & Little Rock are getting there as they redevelop their downtowns. In other cities I visit we have to
drive/uber from the suburbs to walkable downtown areas. Usually we do not have the time to do that, resulting in trips
that are fly/drive in & out and minimizes our spend on meals & entertainment.
If this hotel passes, it looks like we will start to see real vitalization of our downtown vs. the current afterthought with
some 1970's bolt-on buildings that are now getting refurbished...
