Please postpone any action of the project and get more information. The city has the upper hand in the negotiations
with the developer, since the City owns the land. It need not concede anything that impinges upon what the city thinks
is the best use of the property and the best interests of the City. And the concessions should be granted TO the City, not
FROM it. The PZD ordinance empowers the city to review the plans for the hotel. And the public should have a chance to
voice its concerns BEFORE anything is signed. This is a very desirable location, and the City owns it. I should think any
developer would consent to requirements the City proposed for the opportunity to establish itself in our vibrant and
thriving community. The developer is not doing the City a favor, because IT IS OUR LAND.
Notwithstanding the planners’ desire to achieve a Walkable City, parking IS a major problem with this proposal. We
were promised that the parking deck being built at Dickson/West would replace WAC parking lot spaces lost to the new
park. But that promise was made before the proposal for this hotel. Why can’t the developer build parking for its
guests? Isn’t that required for all kinds of businesses and organizations in the city? If the hotel will provide valet parking,
why can’t it create a parking lot somewhere else, perhaps where land is cheaper. There are other parking lots not far
from the proposed site that the hotel might arrange to use. It is irresponsible to say, “Build it and they will come, and let
THEM worry about finding a parking place.”
A tired but true proverb is “Better safe than sorry.” Please take some time to clarify this issue.
