Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. I am writing because I am shocked… and saddened…by the news of the proposed hotel being planned for the entertainment district in Fayetteville. It is absolutely shocking that a proposal is being considered to build a 130 room hotel with only 32 parking spaces! This is absurd! I have lived in NWA since 1976, and in the same house in Fayetteville since 1979. Through the years, I have enjoyed all the music, dining, and entertainment provided on Dickson St. I only come to Dickson St. now for the shows at the Walton Arts Center. I would LOVE to patronize the wonderful restaurants and bars on Dickson St., but do not because of the parking situation. As a Broadway season ticket holder at WAC, I am assured a parking spot right across the street. Of course, that is being taken away in the near future. I, like many WAC patrons, am a senior citizen. The more difficult it is to park, and walk, to the WAC, the more likely I am to quit renewing my long-time season tickets and attending the wonderful performances. Why is the City Council punishing the citizens of Fayetteville and depriving them of the wonderful experiences available in the Dickson Street area? I just don’t understand. If Fayetteville needs another hotel, build it somewhere else in town… not in this area. We will be “ shooting ourself in the foot” building it in this area. Do you think the hotel will experience good occupancy if the customers can’t find parking? Do you think the businesses on Dickson St. can remain in business with even MORE limited parking? The answer to the current question of the new hotel in the Dickson St. area seems logical and very apparent… Don’t do it!! Please! We are being punished enough already.
