Hello,
I am writing today to urge the city and the council to take into account adequate parking
while considering the Letter of Intent for a proposal to develop a 130-room hotel on the
South end of the Civic Plaza in the coming weeks.
I have lived in Fayetteville for 11 years and have worked on Dickson Street for the past 9
years. In this time, I have seen parking option after parking option whittled away or
removed. As someone who not only works on Dickson but enjoys what else it has to offer
such as the restaurants, bars, and theatres, I can speak for myself and those who join me
in these endeavors that having an inadequate parking lot for a hotel that size will cause
residents to avoid Dickson Street even more than they already do because they will not be
able to find parking.
Thirty-two parking spaces for this size of hotel is inadequate and their vague proposal for
offsite valet is alarming.
I, along with many of the citizens of Fayetteville, are grateful for the careful planning that
has gone into similar projects. These new projects have increased tourism and have
increased community involvement. I would hate to see this city go the opposite direction of
progress and not adequately review this proposal.
I would be curious what information the parking study that the surrounding business
owners have invested in will provide and hope it will help you all make a comprehensive,
well-researched decision.
Sincerely,
Lauren Underwood
