Honorable Mayor Jordan and esteemed Council members:
On behalf of Best Friends Animal Society and our Arkansas members, supporters, partners and
staff, I want to thank you for your support of the humane pet sales ordinance at last night's meeting.
This is a really positive step for the pets and people of Fayetteville.
As I mentioned in my testimony, Best Friends is extremely committed to lifesaving in Northwest
Arkansas. We are building a state-of-the-art pet resource center in Bentonville, scheduled to open at
the end of the year. And although more than 440 cities, counties and states have enacted retail pet
sales legislation, I could not be happier that Fayetteville has become the first in the state to take this
important step, and that you all have paved the way for other cities and counties in Arkansas to follow
your lead.
I know a few of you still had questions after the vote, and I am happy to help answer those and to
provide any additional information you might be looking for.
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Oreck

Subject: Support for a humane pet sales ordinance from Best Friends Animal Society
Honorable Mayor Jordan and esteemed Council members:
On behalf of Best Friends Animal Society and our Arkansas members, supporters, partners and
staff, please find attached a letter in support of the proposed ordinance to restrict the retail sale of
dogs and cats in Fayetteville pet stores. Also attached are a few resource documents that you may
find helpful.
Best Friends is one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the United States. We are
dedicated to fighting the cruelty of puppy and kitten mills, and we believe that a humane pet sales
ordinance in Fayetteville will be a positive step to that end.
We are extremely committed to supporting lifesaving in Arkansas through the building of a coalition of
shelter and rescue partners, substantial financial investment, and the construction of a state-of-the-art
pet resource center in Bentonville.
We have been proud to work with the majority of the more than 440 cities, counties and states that
have enacted humane pet sales ordinances, and we are thrilled that Fayetteville is poised to become
the first city in Arkansas to do the same. I hope you will not hesitate to contact me if you should have
any questions.
Thank you very much in advance for your support of this important proposal.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Oreck
