RAINBOW PRIDE FLAG AND JUNETEENTH FLAG:
A RESOLUTION TO PURCHASE AND DISPLAY A RAINBOW PRIDE FLAG AND A
JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION FLAG ON THE FLAGPOLE USED FOR THE CITY FLAG
FROM JUNE 14TH THROUGH JUNE 21 ST OF 2022
WHEREAS, the citizens of Fayetteville voted for equality and against discrimination on September 8,
2015 when they passed the Uniform Civil Rights Protection law; and
WHEREAS, the Uniform Civil Rights Protection law enacted by Fayetteville voters expressed its
purpose as follows: "Fayetteville is a welcoming, fair and tolerant city which endeavors to ensure that
all of its citizens and visitors will be free from unfair discrimination"; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to show its support both for Juneteenth to celebrate the end of
slavery and for Pride week to support equality and fairness for all LGBT residents, their families and
friends in Fayetteville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby appropriates up to
$300.00 to purchase the Gay Pride Rainbow and Juneteenth Celebration flags and requests that the
Mayor purchase these flags and display them together immediately below the City flag from June 14th
through June 21 st in 2022 and for a week annually on the appropriate dates thereafter.
Section 2: That the City Council recognizes the following as supporters of this Resolution: Omni
Center for Peace, Justice, and Ecology; Fellowship of Champions Church; NWA Equality Center;
Lakisha Bradley; Kris Paxton; Pattie and David Williams; Lindsey Leverett-Higgins; Quinton Green;

Please review my draft Resolution and Agenda Request form. If these are satisfactory, please
confirm by return email. I also have attached flags the City could get large enough that they would look
appropriate on the city flag pole next to the American and State flags on the other two flag poles. I have
not found the flags you suggested in an appropriate size, but have been very busy. (There may be some
out there available that I did not see.)
