NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves the attached map as the new ward boundary map for Fayetteville which establishes substantially equal populations for each ward and amends §32.03 Wards by referring to this ordinance and by adopting the new ward boundary map attached as Exhibit "A" to replace all previous ward boundary maps. RECOMMENDATION: An Ordinance to approve revised ward boundaries to equalize ward populations after the 2020 federal census. BACKGROUND: The City's GIS division worked the City Attorney's office to develop a proposed ward map based upon Federal and State law, and in coordination with the Washington County Election Commission. DISCUSSION: The proposed new ward map was developed by GIS staff by analyzing the 2020 decennial census data. It complies with federal and state laws, follows equal representation guidelines, and provides appropriate room for growth in the higher growth wards. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: There is not budget impact for the proposed ordinance. Attachments: Staff Review Form, Staff Review Memo, City Council January 25 presentation, proposed ward map.
