BACKGROUND: The City's traffic calming policy allows citizens with concerns about excessive traffic speeds in their neighborhood to apply for traffic calming measures to be implemented. Requests are considered utilizing a three-tier process based on proximity to schools, cut-throughs, or dead- end or disconnected areas of the transportation network. Relevant data is collected and assigned a point value based on traffic speed, traffic volume, history of traffic accidents, location of sidewalks, and nearness to schools. DISCUSSION: Speed cushions are installed across the width of the street wide enough to slow cars but narrow enough for emergency vehicles to straddle. This order includes the materials and supplies needed for additional areas as approved in the future. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: Funding for this project is budgeted in Sales Tax Capital Improvement.
