A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE AN APPLICATION FOR A 90/10 ASSISTANCE TO
FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
IN THE AMOUNT OF $300,000.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO BRUSH TRUCK
VEHICLES FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby authorizes an
application for a 90/10 Fiscal Year 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency in the amount of $300,000.00 for the purchase of two brush truck vehicles for
the Fire Department, with a local match in the amount of approximately $30,000.00.

Comments: The grant match that is required is 10% which would be approximately $30,000 paid for from ACT 833 Funds. If
the grant is awarded and accepted by Council then a budget adjustment would then occur moving funds into the
special grants expense account with a new project number.

SUBJECT: The Fire Department requests approval to apply for the FY 2020 Assistance to
Firefighters (AFG) Grant program which, if awarded, would allow for the purchase of two Brush
Truck Vehicles to respond to Wildland Urban Interface Fire Responses.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Fire Department requests approval to apply for the FY 2020 Assistance to Firefighters
(AFG) Grant program which, if awarded, would allow for the purchase of two Brush Truck
Vehicles to respond to Wildland Urban Interface Fire Responses.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) administers the Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) Grants. The purpose of. the AFG
Program is to enhance, through direct financial assistance, the health and safety of firefighting
personnel. These Brush Truck Vehicles will allow for enhanced response capabilities specific to
wildland and brush fires within our urban interface City surroundings.
DISCUSSION:
The Fire Department would like to utilize this opportunity to submit an application for the
AFG grant program to request funding to purchase two brush truck vehicles. These
apparatus will ensure quality Wildland/brush fire vehicles are available to respond to our
city's fire- response needs.
BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
If the grant is awarded, the City would incur the matching grant amount of 10% which will be
approximately $30,000 of the total grant amount requested of $300,000. The funding for this
match will come from ACT 833 Funds.
