NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby determines an exceptional situation exists in which competitive bidding is deemed not feasible or practical and therefore waives the requirements of formal competitive bidding and authorizes the purchase of bunker gear from North America Fire Equipment Company, Inc. for the Fire Department for the amount of $24,650.00 plus applicable taxes and freight charges. Approval of a Bid Waiver for NAFECO to allow for the purchase of bunker gear RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends City Council to approve a bid waiver for purchases made through NAFECO for bunker gear. BACKGROUND: The Fayetteville Fire Department requests a bid waiver to purchase bunker gear. Bunker gear consists of the protective clothing worn by firefighters to shield them from heat and abrasive debris during fire suppression and emergency response activities. DISCUSSION: This particular bunker gear was ordered by another municipality utilizing Fayetteville Fire Department specifications other than the outer shell color. When the gear arrived to the municipality it was in Fayetteville Fire colors. The vendor NAFECO is liquidating this gear at a reduced price. Our department assessed needed sizes and this liquidated gear will meet many of our immediate bunker gear needs. Approval of this bid waiver to allow purchase through NAFECO will enable us to obtain needed gear at a greatly reduced cost to the City.
