NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby determines that the City of Fayetteville will participate in accordance with its designated responsibility, including maintenance of this project. BACKGROUND: The two existing pedestrian bridges on the west side of the park were constructed in 1986. They have reached the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced. DISCUSSION: This project will remove the two existing 4 -ft bridges and construct one 10 -ft bridge and connecting sidewalks to the loop trail and the pavilion. In addition to better pedestrian access, the 10 -ft bridge will also accommodate mowers which will allow safer maintenance access across the creek. A stone/concrete trail will connect the pavilion and playground to the loop trail and will provide improved ADA access. Stream restoration work around the removed bridge will provide a natural stream crossing. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: The total project budget is $216,000. The city's portion (20%) will be $43,200.
