NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby determines that the City of Fayetteville will participate in accordance with its designated responsibility, including maintenance of this project. BACKGROUND: The City trail construction crew has recently completed the replacement of one mile of trails within Gulley Park. Electrical conduit has been installed along the new 8 -foot -wide concrete trails, however sufficient funding is not currently available to install the wire and estimated 50 light poles. DISCUSSION: The Arkansas Department of Transportation is currently accepting applications for funding through the Transportation Alternatives Program. Trail lighting an eligible item for this program and could provide 80% funding for installing the trail lightings in one of our highest used parks. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: The total estimated cost for the lighting installation if $200,000. If the Transportation Alternatives Program grant is approved and fully funded, the City will be responsible for 20% of the total project cost, or $40,000. Funding for the match has been budgeted through the Parks Development Program for community park improvements.
