The Cultural Arts Corridor is envisioned as a series of interconnected public open spaces along the Razorback Regional Greenway between Prairie St. and Dickson St. In February of 2018 the City of Fayetteville accepted statements of qualifications from landscape architecture firms that have been pre -qualified by the Walton Family Foundation (RFQ 18-06). In May of 2018 a committee made up of city staff and elected officials selected Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects LLC of Charlottesville, Virginia (NBW) to be the project lead for the design team. NBW is currently in the schematic design phase of the project. NBW have visited Fayetteville twice, in August and October, to lead design workshops and receive public input. NBW will be returning to Fayetteville to present and receive input on finalized schematic designs in December of this year. Final design development will be completed in early 2019. DISCUSSION: The Fay Jones Woodland, located in the Cultural Arts Corridor, is overgrown with invasive honeysuckle and privet plants which make it difficult for the public to envision this area as a natural Ozarks woodland environment. The Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department has done an excellent job of clearing much of this land of the invasive plants with volunteer groups. However, this can be a very time-consuming process when using hand tools in order to not disturb the soil and native plants interspersed among the invasive plants. The volunteer groups have primarily concentrated their efforts on clearing the land between the Razorback Regional Greenway and Tanglewood Branch to the west. Mailing Address: 113 W. Mountain Street www.fayetteville-ar.gov Fayetteville, AR 72701 This request is to hire an experienced landscape maintenance company to hand clear the remaining invasive plants that are located on the land between the Razorback Regional Greenway and West Ave. This area encompasses approximately 3 acres. Sustainability staff has received three bids from local companies for clearing this land of invasive plants. Staff is recommending the selection of Comprehensive Botanical Services to complete this work. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: Sustainability staff recommends using available funds in the Sustainability Departments Contract Services budget that were designated, but not utilized, for the implementation of the City's Bike Share project. The total project cost to Comprehensive Botanical Services for invasive plant removal is $7,260.00. Below are 2 separate quotes. Unfortunately the method you described to me for completing the project is very time consuming and difficult. With the current jobs I have booked, I would not have the machines and time to dedicate to the project until January. If we can use our rubber track forestry mulcher we can do the project in October. -using our rubber track forestry mulcher to mulch the privet and honeysuckle and dead vegetation on the ground the price would be $3,600. We could complete this in October anytime after the first week of October. And I could come back next year when you get regrowth and mulch down the regrowth for $1,600. -to cut the unwanted vegetation above ground and pull it up then mulch it, the price would be $18,000. We could do this work in January if chose us to do the work. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would like to do this project for the City of Fayetteville. We are working on the design of a piece of parkland in downtown Fayetteville and need to have it cleared of invasive honeysuckle and privet. We are interested in having it hand -cut to leave any native undergrowth and then paint the honeysuckle and privet stumps with herbicide. Do you all do this type of selective clearing? It is approximately 3 acres of land off West Ave. behind the old City Hospital property. I can provide a specific map of the land if you all have the capability to do this type of clearing.
