BACKGROUND: Parks and Recreation receives various donations throughout the year to help the City provide needed park amenities and funding for programs. DISCUSSION: Fayetteville A & P Commission provided $10,000 from their annual budget to assist Parks and Recreation in hosting special events including Fayetteville Square 2 Square Bike Ride, Ladies Duathlon, Run for Parks and the new mountain bike event called Kessler Mountain Jam. These funds help with advertisement, design of event logos, participant shirts, prizes and swag for the event. Promotion of the event is essential in offering quality events that will attract tourists and encourage former participants to enter. The continual assistance from the A & P Commission allows the Parks and Recreation Department to offer attractive and excellent special events. The Memorial Bench Donation Program was developed to help provide benches for the parks and trails system as well as provide a way for citizens to memorialize or commemorate a loved one or special event. The Fayetteville Rotary Club donated $8,000 to provide four benches at Kessler Mountain's Fayetteville Rotary Club Playground that the club had previously raised $155,000 to assist in the playground project. Throughout the years, Mr. Garlock has donated for various park amenities to assist Parks and Recreation. The Chain Gang Disc Golf Club raised funds in the amount of $3,000 to help fund new disc golf baskets including the expansion of a practice basket at Lake Fayetteville North Shore Disc Golf Course. These baskets are over 19 years old and with the popularity of the disc golf, adding a practice basket will accommodate additional players while waiting to play. The new baskets will also make the course more conducive for hosting tournaments. It is through generous donations from our community that makes our city a great place to live, work and play.
