Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby awards Bid #17-42 and
authorizes the purchase of two (2) Freightliner 114SD dump trucks in the total amount of $251,208.00 from
Truck Centers of Arkansas for use by the Water and Sewer Operations Division.

SUBJECT: Purchase of two Dump Trucks for Water & Sewer Department
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council approve the purchase of Two Freightliner 114SD Dump Trucks available for the
lowest bid received through Bid 17-42 from Truck Centers of Arkansas in Springdale, AR in the
amount of $125,604.00 each, for a total of $251,208.00 for use in the Water and Sewer
Department.
BACKGROUND:
Unit 749 is a 2006 Freightliner M2-112 Dump Truck. It has exceeded its life expectancy and
has 71 % of its original purchase price in life to date maintenance cost. This percentage is the
minimum we like to see when items come for replacement. However, there are additional
factors we are considering in the need for replacement. The engine on this truck is a Mercedes
and very costly to repair. With the work load of this vehicle and the age, concerns come up
that if something were to happen we would not be able to repair it. In addition, it has a weak
air compressor. This controls the brakes and is therefore a safety issue. This is also a 2006
model, which means that it does not comply with EPA standards.
Unit 752 is a 2008 Freightliner M2-112 Dump Truck. It has 80% of its original purchase price
in life to date maintenance cost.
DISCUSSION:
Fleet recommends the purchase of Two Freightliner 114SD Dump Trucks available for the
lowest bid received through Bid 17-42 from Truck Centers of Arkansas in Springdale, AR in the
amount of $125,604.00 each, for a total of $251,208.00.
BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
Sufficient funds have been budgeted and collected for these purchases.
This purchase was approved by the Equipment Committee on July 11, 2017
