BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves Change Order No. 3
to the contract with Benchmark Construction of NWA, Inc. in the amount of $42,021.00 for the construction
of a gravel access drive, concrete pier pads and irrigation system at the Fire Department Training Facility,
and further approves a project contingency in the amount of $4,202.10.

SUBJECT: Approval of Change Order #3—Fire Training Grounds and approval of a
10% Contingency
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of Change Order #3 and a 10% Contingency to the contract with
Benchmark Construction for a gravel access drive to the river, additional concrete pier pads,
and irrigation for trees.
BACKGROUND:
City Council approved on January 3, 2017 through Resolution No. 03-17 awarding Bid Number
16-64 authorizing a contract with Benchmark Construction of NWA, Inc. in the amount of
$485,058.00. Change Order #1 was approved in February,2017 in the amount of $32,603.56.
Change Order #2 was approved in April,2017 in the amount of $195,377 plus a contingency of
$29,307 utilizing IMPACT FEE funds. Proposed Change Order #3 will add $42,021 to the
contract plus a contingency of $4,202.10. This will make the contract with Benchmark
$755,059.56 ($485,058 +$32,603.56 + $195,377 + $42,021)
DISCUSSION:
Benchmark Construction has provided a cost for a 1500 ft. gravel access drive to the river,
additional concrete pier pads, and irrigation for trees which totals $42,021.00 plus a 10%
Contingency. The gravel drive will allow access to the White River for Fire Department swift
water rescue training. The additional pier pads were recommended per the manufacturer_ The
irrigation system will ensure the proper care and longevity of the trees planted at the Fire
Training Grounds.
BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
The finances- required for this project are already budgeted in the Fire Sales Tax Project: Fire
Training Grounds
