FROM: Jesse Beeks, Fleet Operations Superintendent
DATE: October 18, 2016
SUBJECT: Purchase of three Dump Trucks for Transportation
RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council approve the purchase of three Freightliner 114SD trucks with Hilbilt Mongoose
body per Bid 16-59 available through Truck Centers of Arkansas of Springdale, AR in the
amount of $134,955.00 each, for a total of $404,865.00.
BACKGROUND:
Unit 745 is a 2006 Freightliner M2-112 Dump Truck that has reached 72% of the original
purchase price in life to date maintenance cost. This vehicle was placed in service in August
2006 and has exceeded the 10 year life expectancy.
Unit 747 is a 2006 Freightliner M2-112 Dump Truck that has reached 70% of the original
purchase price in life to date maintenance cost. This vehicle was placed in service in July 2006
and has exceeded the 10 year life expectancy.
These purchases will be an upgrade for the above mentioned trucks from tandem axle trucks to
tri -axle dump trucks. The crews will now be capable of hauling a third more than they do
currently, which will improve efficiency.
Unit 760 is a 2009 Freightliner M2-112 Dump Truck that has reached 86% of the original
purchase price in life to date maintenance cost. This vehicle was placed into service in August
2008 and has exceeded the 8 year life expectancy. This truck is used to haul asphalt, which is
very damaging to the truck. It is also utilized during snow events.
DISCUSSION:
Fleet recommends the purchase of three Freightliner 114SD trucks with Hilbilt Mongoose body
per Bid 16-59 available through Truck Centers of Arkansas of Springdale, AR in the amount of
$134,955.00 each, for a total of $404,865.00.

BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
Sufficient funds were budgeted for these purchases. There are shortfalls in collection because
the cost of these vehicles has greatly increased over the last 5 years. However the funds
should be made up with the sale of the old units.
This purchase was approved by the Equipment Committee on October 11, 2016.
