BACKGROUND:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency's
(FEMA)Grant Programs Directorate implements and administers the Assistance to Firefighters
(AFG) Grants. The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance, through direct financial
assistance, the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel and to provide a
continuum of support for emergency responders regarding fire, medical, and all-hazard events.
DISGUSSION:
The Fire Department would like to utilize this opportunity to submit an application for the

Per Resolution No. 37-15 approved by City Council on February 3, 2015, The Fire
Department has'a dedicated training grounds of approximately 14.2 acres. By applying
for this grant, the department can secure funding to create a realistic environment for

technical rescue situations. This will result in lives and property saved, as well as reduced
firefighter injuries on emergency responses.
BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
lf the grant is awarded, the city would íncur the matching grant amount of 10% which will be
approximately $67;500 of the total grant amount requested of $675,000. The funding for this
match will come from lmpact Fees.
