MEETING OF MAY 5, 2015
TO: Mayor and City Council
THRU: Don Marr, Chief of Staff
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA MEMO
FROM: Terry Gulley, Transportation Services Director
DATE: April 13, 2015
SUBJECT: Transportation Division Work Plan Revision
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff and the Transportation Committee recommend a resolution approving a revision to the
Transportation Division's 2015 asphalt overlay/sidewalk projects list. This revision would include
removing an asphalt overlay and sidewalk improvements project on Maple Street (Gregg
Avenue to Leverett Avenue) from the work plan in order to add asphalt overlays on Stadium
Drive, Bulldog Lane, and Leroy Pond Drive. In addition, sidewalk improvements would also be
added on Davidson Street, Forest Avenue, and Highland Avenue.
BACKGROUND:
The 2015 project list was originally presented to the Transportation Committee on November
25, 2014 and approved by City Council on January 6, 2015 with Resolution No. 05-15.
DISCUSSION:
The University of Arkansas has asked the City of Fayetteville for assistance with the relocation of
Stadium Drive. After careful consideration, it was determined that City crews could complete the
work necessary on Stadium Drive by revising the work plan to remove the Maple Street project.
This change would provide adequate funding to complete the additional paving projects near the
University of Arkansas and Fayetteville High School. Additionally, staff estimates that the
revisions would result in remaining funds which would allow sidewalk improvements to be added
to the work plan and completed in Ward 2 on Davidson Street, Forest Avenue, and Highland
Avenue.
The 2015 work plan revisions were presented to the Transportation Committee on March 31,
2015. The Transportation Committee recommended that the work plan revisions be presented
to the City Council for its approval by resolution in accordance with Ordinance No. 5173.
BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
Funds for labor, equipment, materials, and services are included in the Sales Tax Capital
Improvements and Street Funds in the In -House Pavement Improvements and Sidewalk
Improvements capital projects.
