This purchase was reviewed by the Equipment Committee on January 13, 2015. If you have questions, please contact me at extension 500. BACKGROUND: For over 25 years, the Police Department has maintained non -motor pool vehicles for Police Department operations. These vehicles are needed to blend in with normal traffic for administrative, investigative, and surveillance purposes. DISCUSSION: Typically, used vehicles are purchased for our non -motor pool fleet; however, State Contract pricing allows us to periodically purchase a new replacement for the approximate cost of a pre -owned vehicle: New vehicles have the benefit of a comprehensive manufacturer's warranty, latest safety standards, higher fuel efficiency, and lower emissions. This vehicle purchase is a scheduled replacement of unit number 1236, however, unit number 1236 was involved in a traffic accident in December 2014. This traffic accident allows us the opportunity to purchase a new vehicle via state contract using the proceeds from our insurance claim, salvage revenue, and budgeted project funds. The insurance claim on unit number 1236 was $16,534 and the salvage revenue from selling the wrecked vehicle on govdeals.com will be $1,500 based on Kelley Blue Book and other industry calculations. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: The total budget adjustment of $18,034 will recognize the above revenue and increase our Police Unmarked Vehicles project. The net difference cost of the new vehicle and the proceeds from the wrecked vehicle is $14,337 and is budgeted in project number 06003-1.
