BACKGROUND: Unit 9055 (a 2004 Vermeer chipper/shredder) was due for replacement in 2012 and was pushed back until 2015. It is presently broken down and repairs will cost between $6,000 and $7,000. It is not cost effective to repair it so it will be replaced. This unit is used by both Parks and Transportation divisions with costs shared 50/50. DISCUSSION: Transportation and Parks have demonstrated this Bandit and a Vermeer chipper. Both chippers work well, but this unit is quite a bit less expensive. The purchase price includes sales tax. This replacement unit is available off the NJPA contract. Fleet recommends the purchase of one Bandit Model 990XP chipper from Henard Utility Products of Searcy, AR. off the NJPA contract in the amount of $35,693.17 (including tax). This purchase was approved by the Equipment Committee on January 13, 2015. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: Replacement funds collected are $3,000 short of the amount needed, but that should be more than covered when the old unit is sold on GovDeals. Operating funds have been budgeted.
