BACKGROUND: Water and Sewers' unit 655 is a 2005 new Holland Backhoe that was slated for replacement in 2014 but was pushed to 2015. Maintenance cost have reached 116% of the original purchase price. It can no longer stand up to Water and Sewers demanding needs. Transportation's unit 688 is a 2008 New Holland Backhoe. Maintenance costs have reached 85% of the purchase price of the unit. It is no longer in a condition that fits the needs of our Transportation department. Parks' unit 680 is a 2006 New Holland Backhoe that was slated for replacement in 2014 but was pushed to 2015. Maintenance cost have reached 98% of its original purchase price. It is no longer reliable for the Parks Department's everyday use. DISCUSSION: Fleet recommends the purchase of three 2015 Caterpillar 420F2 backhoes that are available off the NJPA purchase contract from Riggs of Springdale Arkansas in the amount of $95,335.86 each for a total of $286,007.58. This purchase was approved by the Equipment Committee on July 14, 2015. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: For Water and Sewer and Transportation's backhoes sufficient funds have been budgeted and collected for this purchase. Parks' has sufficient funds budgeted and there is only a slight shortfall in funds collected, however once the old unit is sold on GovDeals we will have more than enough for this purchase.
