A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE ACCEPTANCE OF A GENERAL
IMPROVEMENT FUND GRANT THROUGH THE NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT, INC. IN THE
AMOUNT OF $50,000.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF SOCCER GOALS FOR
THE REGIONAL PARK, AND TO APPROVE A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby authorizes
acceptance of a General Improvement Fund grant through the Northwest Arkansas Economic
Development District, Inc. in the amount of $50,000.00 for the purchase of soccer goals for the
Regional Park and expresses its sincere appreciation to Representative Charlie Collins for his
assistance in securing the grant funds.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves a budget
adjustment, a copy of which is attached to this Resolution.

SUBJECT: Resolution to Accept the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development
District, Inc. General Improvement Fund (GIF) Grant for Soccer Goals
RECOMMENDATION:
Parks and Recreation requests City Council approval of a resolution to authorize the City to accept
$50,000 from the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc. General Improvement
Fund (GIF) Grant and approval of a budget adjustment to recognize the revenue for soccer goals
for the Regional Park.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Fayetteville is currently constructing Phase I of the Regional Park including soccer
fields for youth soccer. The City's existing soccer program is programmed on land leased from
the University of Arkansas. This lease will expire in 2018 and will not be renewed.
State Representative Charlie Collins, District 84, recommended the GIF grant application to the
City for a $50,000 project to purchase soccer goals for the Regional Park soccer complex. The
soccer goals would be used for league play as well as hosting tournaments that would bring in
tourism money, which would assist state wide efforts in economic and community development.
DISCUSSION:
Phase I of the Regional Park originally included additional amenities including new soccer
goals; however the goals and many other items were omitted through the value engineering
process after bidding. As this park will draw regional tournaments, it is important to have the
best quality facilities and equipment to offer participants. Without this grant, the City will be
repurposing outdated existing goals at the new park until new goals can be funded through the
Capital Improvement Plan.
BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT:
This grant award is for $50,000. There is no anticipated budget impact. The grant does not require
matching funds.
