BACKGROUND The Solid Waste and Recycling Division sells compost in bulk and bags for residential use. The vast majority of sales are in the bulk variety utilizing the Division's loader for loading pick up trucks or trailers for the public. Very few customers purchase the compost in bags. Unit 479 was received through a ADEQ Recycling grant approved in 2004. Bagging of compost utilizing the bagging equipment was to make it more convenient to sell compost to residents without access to pick up trucks or trailers. Bagging and storing the compost had issues with molding inside the bags and was only completed when a customer requested bags. 111 I:CN i7.M C�7►1 Per Regulation 11 of the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission, the assets received from the sale of recycling equipment purchased with ADEQ recycling grant funds is required to be distributed back into the recycling program that was awarded the grant. The sale of the bagger through Gov Deals was $20,000 with 7.5% of the sale revenue going to Gov Deals for the administration of the transaction and a grand total of $18,500 received. The money now needs to be transferred back into the recycling program to be used to further recycling programs. The $18,500 will be used to help further expansion of the apartment recycling program through expanded recycling container purchases as the apartment program grows. Currently grant money has been used in past years to purchase recycling containers for on site collection of materials at the participating complexes and also for the purchase of indoor recycling bins and bags currently in the process of being purchased and distributed. Project 09019 has been used for these grants.
