DISCUSSION: On August 19, 2014, the City Council approved a contract with Benchmark Construction for the replacement of the concrete driveway and parking area in front of Fire Station #1. During the construction of the driveway repairs, it was requested by the Development Services Department that a sidewalk be incorporated into the driveway apron. A sidewalk in this location fills in a gap between sidewalks along Center Street and Locust Avenue. In order to construct the sidewalk, additional work was necessary to form the sidewalks to the proper grade. This also resulted in twice the number of anticipated "pours" that the contractor had planned in the initial bid. Benchmark Construction has provided a cost of $6,703.00 for the additional labor and materials required for the sidewalk and ADA ramp installation for this project. This project was approved with an original contract of $42,879.00 with an $8,575.90 contingency. $5,632.00 of this contingency has been used for Change Order #1 for replacement of the unsuitable soils in a portion of the project.
