If you have any questions, please contact me at extension 500. BACKGROUND: For over 25 years, the Police Department has maintained non -motor pool vehicles for covert operations. These vehicles are needed to blend in with normal traffic for surveillance and investigative operations. DISCUSSION: Typically, used vehicles are purchased for our covert operations; however, State Contract pricing allows us to periodically purchase a new replacement for the approximate cost of a pre -owned vehicle. New vehicles have the benefit of a comprehensive manufacturer's warranty, latest safety standards, and higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
