Most of the forfeitures we have received in the past are a direct result from the efforts of the officers we assign to the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force (4th DTF), the local office of the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Financial Crimes Task Force. By statute, federal and state forfeitures are to be spent for law enforcement purposes only. All purchases utilizing these funds must follow the City of Fayetteville Purchasing Policy. The federal forfeitures consist of Department of Justice funds which are drug related forfeitures and Department of Treasury funds which are Internal Revenue Service related forfeitures. The requested budget adjustment will recognize the following forfeitures through October 2013: $27,988 from the Department of Justice; $133,716 from the Department of Treasury; and $14,507 from state forfeitures. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of a budget adjustment in the amount of $176,211 to recognize federal and state law enforcement forfeitures revenue received through October 2013 and increase related expense budget. BUDGET IMPACT: Increase expenses to correspond with federal and state law enforcement forfeiture revenue received through October 2013.
