THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT CORRESPONDENCE PROPOSAL: On July 1 Oth, 2010 the Fayetteville Active Transportation Advisory Committee unanimously approved a motion to forward the trail names recommendations "Clear Creek Trail" and "Scull Creek Trair' to the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for review and public comment according the park and trail facilities naming policy. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board heard the trail names on August 5"', 2013 and tabled the item for 1 month to allow a public comment period. On September 9"', 2013 the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted unanimously to forward the trail name recommendations "Clear Creek Trail" and "Scull Creek Trail' to the City Council. BACKGROUND: New sections of the Razorback Regional Greenway located in north Fayetteville and Johnson will soon open to the public and official names for these trail sections are recommended as listed below. Clear Creek Trail This 2.25 mile long trail will extend west from Lake Fayetteville along Clear Creek to Ball Street (see map below). In the future, this trail is planned to extend on west along Clear Creek to the Willow Creek Women's Hospital. The name "Clear Creek Trail" is consistent with the practice of naming trails after the creek which they follow. Scull Creek Trail This 3/4 mile long trail extends north along Scull Creek and Mud Creek to meet Clear Creek Trail near Ball St (see map below). The Active Transportation Advisory Committee and Parks and Recreation Advisory Board agreed that the name "Scull Creek Trail" should be extended north to Clear Creek Trail for continuity even though it will technically follow a section of Mud Creek before the confluence with Clear Creek. The continuation of the "Scull Creek Trail" name was favored to avoid confusion with the current "Mud Creek Trail" which extends east from Scull Creek Trail south of Joyce Blvd. BUDGET IMPACT: None THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS egend PrvlwsnJ'Scull Creek Trail' L t — Proloosm;i 'Clear Creek Trail" Proposed "Clear Creek Trail" — Existing Multi -Use Trail &h^Umn 2.25 Miles Nature Trail P.& Troll Sidewalk Connection M Bike Lane go Bike Lane/Shared Lane ........
