A RESOLUTION APPROVING A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT IN THE
AMOUNT OF $14,500.00 FOR THE PURCHASE OF A PORTABLE
CHANGEABLE MESSAGE SIGN FOR THE TRANSPORTATION
DEPARMENT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves a
budget adjustment, a copy of which is attached as Exhibit "A", in the total amount of $14,500.00
for the purchase of a portable changeable message sign for the Transportation Department.

BUDGET ADJUSTMENT DESCRIPTION / JUSTIFICATION
Funds are requested to purchase a portable changeable message sign board to replace 99051 (TRAN_F047 - a
2003 Message sign board). Fleet didn't budget to replace it in 2013, but the old unit died.
Sufficient funds are available to meet City objectives.

THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS
DEPARTMENT CORRESPONDENCE
PROPOSAL: That City Council approve a Budget Adjustment to move funds from the Shop fund to the Fleet
expense account for the purchase of a portable changeable message sign for Transportation Division.
RECOMMENDATION: Unit #9051 is a 2003 portable changeable message sign that is used by
Transportation Division. It has died and needs to be replaced. Fleet replaced its twin last March — the vendor
has agreed to hold his price.
The total cost, including shipping and tax is $14,475 to purchase a 2013 Silent Messenger III sign. As it is
under $20,000 it will not have to go to Council. However, since Fleet had not budgeted on the capital side to
replace this unit until 2014, a Budget Adjustment is needed to move funds out of fund balance and into the Fleet
expense account.
BUDGET IMPACT: Sufficient funds are budgeted on the operating side for the new unit.
