BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves
Bid 12-34 and authorizes the purchase of two thermal imagers from David's Fire Equipment in
the amount of $20,400.00 plus sales tax for the Fayetteville Fire Department.

Subject: A resolution awarding Bid 12-34 for and approving the purchase of two thermal imagers from the
vendor David's Fire Equipment, for the amount of $20,400.00 plus sales tax, for the Fayetteville Fire
Department.
PROPOSAL:
A thermal imaging camera (colloquially known as a TIC) is a type of thermographic camera used in
firefighting. By rendering radiation as visible light, such cameras allow firefighters to see areas of heat through
smoke, darkness, or heat -permeable barriers.
Since thermal imaging cameras can "see" through darkness or smoke, they allow firefighters to quickly find the
seat of a structure fire, or see the heat signature of visually obscured victims. Thermal imaging cameras have
been credited with saving multiple lives per year through victim identification and removal from low visibility
conditions.
RECOMMENDATION:
Sealed formal bids for the purchase of two thermal imagers were publicly read and the results are attached to
this memo.
Staff recommends a resolution awarding Bid 12-34 — Fire Department Thermal Imagers to the vendor David's
Fire Equipment and approving the purchase of two thermal imagers for a total price of $20,400.00 plus sales
tax.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funds for the purchase of thermal imaging cameras have been budgeted in Project 03047 — Fire Department Act
833/46/Misc Revenue. This project is funded by the State Fire Protection Services Program — Act 833 of 1991
through a half of 1% premium tax on fire insurance policies.
