NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OV THE
CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby resolves to
change the name of a portion of Stone Street and Clinton Drive to Bulldog Boulevard as shown
on the attached map labeled Exhibit A.

Subject: Renaming Portions of S Clinton Dr and w Stone St to W Bulldog Blvd
DESCRIPTION:
This is a proposal to rename a section of street that runs along the north edge of the Fayetteville High School
Campus. This section of street currently has two different names; the western portion which runs from S.
Garland Ave to S Delaware Ave is named S Clinton Drive, while the eastern portion from S Delaware Ave to S
Buchanan Ave is named W Stone Street. It is proposed that both sections be renamed to W Bulldog Blvd. (See
attached Map)
DISCUSSION:
The Fayetteville School District administration desires to rename one of the streets adjacent to the High School
campus to Bulldog Blvd. This raises issues of readdressing of citizen's houses, and street name continuity as it
relates to 911 access and general ease of navigation. Following is a discussion of these factors for each of the
four streets surrounding the High School.
NOT RECOMMENDED:
• Martin Luther King Blvd (south side): Not considered as an option.
• Buchanan Ave (east side): would have to change 53 residential addresses. 9-1-1 not a problem
• S Garland Ave (west side): would have to change 2 non-residential addresses. 9-1-1 not a problem.
The issue here is that within 2 or 3 years the University plans to extend Stadium Drive south to the
intersection of MLK (see attached U of A Growth Plan). This will include the section of road running
along the west side of the High School which is currently named S Garland Ave. The University feels
strongly that the entire stretch of road should be named "Stadium Drive" both for improved 9-1-1 access
and for general eae of navigation.
RECOMMENDED:
• Stone St (north side): We considered changing the name for the full length of the street, but that would
require changing 33 residential addresses. As an alternative, we are suggesting we change only the
portion of the street adjacent to the High School campus. This will require changing one residential
address. Not an ideal solution from a 9-1-1 perspective as Stone Street will change name as one travels
along it, but police dispatch believes this should not be much of a problem since the name "Bulldog" is
easily associated with the High School, and the other addresses will not change. In the near term the
street name will actually change three times — from Clinton to Bulldog to Stone — but when the
University improves Stadium Drive it will also demolish the loop of Clinton Drive lying west of
Stadium, so that issue will disappear.

Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.
