A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR A 2010 FEDERAL
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY ASSISTANCE TO
FIREFIGHTERS GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $360,000.00 TO PURCHASE
A SPECIALIZED FIRE APPARATUS FOR THE FAYETTEVILLE FIRE
DEPARTMENT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby authorizes
application for a 2010 Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grant
in the amount of $360,000.00 to purchase a specialized fire apparatus for the Fayetteville Fire
Department.

Subject: Request for matching funds for federal grant.
PROPOSAL: The City of Fayetteville Fire Department has identified an opportunity to apply for an
Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in order
to purchase a Specialized Fire Apparatus. The cost of a Heavy Rescue Unit is approximately $450,000. The
amount of the grant will be $360,000 (80%) with a City match of $90,000 (20%). The truck will carry Rescue
Team equipment and lighting for swift water rescue, high angle rescue, confined space rescue and collapse
rescue. In addition, the truck will house a mobile cascade air system, and an on -board breathing air compressor.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the matching funds for a 2010 Assistance to
Firefighters Grant in the amount of $450,000. The actual amount of the grant would be $360,000 (80%) with a
City match of $90,000 (20%). Funding would be for the purchase of a heavy rescue truck with on -board
breathing air compressor, cascade air system and rescue equipment.
BUDGET IMPACT: The Fire Department has identified Act 833 / 46 / Misc Revenue from account
1010.3020.5911.00 as the budget source for the matching funds. The Act 833 revenue comes in quarterly and
will accumulate until the first quarter of 2011 when the grant awards should be announced.
