BE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby renames
South California Drive to West Clinton Drive beginning at its intersection with South Harmon
Avenue and ending at its intersection with South Stadium Drive.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby renames
South California Drive to South Clinton Drive beginning at its intersection with South Stadium
Drive and ending at its intersection with South Delaware Avenue.
PASSED and APPROVED this 3rd day of August, 2010.

Subject: Street Name Change Request from the
Recommendation:
The City Staff and Administration recommend on behalf of the Clinton House Museum Board of
Directors and the Mayor's office that the City Council of the City of Fayetteville Arkansas, pass a
resolution to change the name of California Boulevard to Clinton Boulevard.
Background:
The City of Fayetteville, AR was contacted by the Clinton House Museum Board of Directors
which provided a resolution passed by the Board of Directors on July 9th, 2010, requesting that
the City of Fayetteville rename California Boulevard as Clinton Boulevard in honor of former
residents William Jefferson Clinton and Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, both prominent figures
within the City of Fayetteville, the State of Arkansas, United States and the World.
Both Bill and Hillary Clinton served as Assistant Professors of law at the University of Arkansas
School of Law. William (Bill) Clinton served as the Arkansas Attorney General, Governor of the
State of Arkansas, and President of the United States. Hillary Rodham Clinton, served as First
Lady of Arkansas and the United States, as a US Senator, and is currently the US Secretary of
State. Bill and Hillary were married in their home at 930 California Boulevard in Fayetteville, and
the home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The improved way -finding that occurs with this renaming would enhance the awareness by local
residents about the historic home and the contributions of its most famous residents and would
increase visits by tourists from out of town and across the nation, telling the exciting story of
Fayetteville's history and contributing to the economic vitality of community.
Budget Impact:
The budget impact for the City of Fayetteville will be approximately $325.00 for the installation of
new street signs.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

Whereas, Bill and Hillary Clinton were married in their home at 930 California
Boulevard in Fayetteville; and
Whereas, the home of Bill and Hillary Clinton was listed on the National Register of
Historic Places in 2010; and
Whereas, the Clinton House is currently owned by the University of Arkansas and
operated by the Fayettevile Advertising and Promotion Commission as the Clinton House
Museum; and
Whereas, improved wayfinding would enhance the awareness by local residents about
the historic home and the contributions of is most famous residents; and
Whereas, improved wayfinding would increase visits by tourists from out of town and
across the nation, telling the exciting story of Fayetteville's history and contributing to
the economic vitality of our community; and
Whereas, no other city streets in Fayetteville bear the name Clinton;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Clinton House Museum Board of
Directors requests that the City of Fayetteville rename California Boulevard as Clinton
Boulevard, in honor of former residents William Jefferson Clinton and Hillary Diane
Rodham Clinton, and place appropriate signs indicating the new name; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be provided to the
Mayor, the members of the City Council, and the appropriate City committees involved
in the decision process for changing street names.
