Pierce, GIS office, Information Technology Division Date: June 03, 2010 Subject: Approval of a resolution to change the name of an abandoned segment of N Shiloh Dr to remove duplication of the street name. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that a segment of N Shiloh Dr be re -named to reduce any confusion that may be caused by duplicate street names. BACKGROUND Due to the re -alignment of N Shiloh Dr at the Porter Rd exit, there is an existing section of N Shiloh Dr that will be abandoned. If kept as is, there will be two parallel segments of N Shiloh Dr with the same address range. This will cause confusion for emergency responders. The abandoned segment of N Shiloh Dr needs a unique name. Farm Credit Services, the only business addressed off this section, has submitted the name "N Farm Credit Dr" which was approved by the Street Name & Address Committee on June 3'd, 2010. BUDGET IMPACT Approximately $130.00 for materials, equipment, and labor. RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION RENAMING A SECTION OF N. SHILOH DRIVE TO N. FARM CREDIT DRIVE DUE TO STREET REALIGNMENT BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby renames that section of N. Shiloh Drive between its intersection with the newly constructed and realigned N. Shiloh Drive and its intersection with N. Porter Road to N. Farm Credit Drive. PASSED and APPROVED this 15"' day of July, 2010. APPROVED: ATTEST: By: By: LIONELD JORDAN, Mayor SONDRA E. SMITH, City Clerk/Treasurer 'Fave.(eville THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS ARKANSAS www.accessfayetteville.org Monday, June 14, 2010 To Whom It May Concern: Due to the re -alignment of N Shiloh Dr, the address for Farm Credit Services of Western Arkansas will have to be corrected to comply with emergency 911 addressing standards. The segment of road that gives access to the building will have to be re -named so that there is no street name duplication which may cause confusion for the emergency responders. The address number, itself, can stay the same (2209); however, the street name will definitely have to change. The City of Fayetteville can select a street name for this segment from the pre -approved street name list or Farm Credit Services may select a name from this list since it is the only affected entity on this segment. Farm Credit Services may also produce a name of their own, which must be approved by the Street Name & Address Committee. Once a new name is decided upon, the GIS office will assist in the address change by notifying the following entities on behalf of Farm Credit Services: all basic utility companies, the Washington County Assessor, the Washington County Clerk, all e-911 agencies, and the U.S. Postal Service. The U.S. Postal Service will forward mail for up to one (1) year. Also, the GIS office will provide letters of verification of an address change to mortgage and/or insurance companies, if needed. The GIS office will notify Farm Credit Services of the date when this item will be on the City Council Agenda. 1 have enclosed the City of Fayetteville's pre -approved street name list for review or Farm Credit Services may submit their own names for approval. I have also enclosed a map showing the area of concern. Thank you for your time and cooperation. His wife and sons are still in the area as are his parents (Bob& Barb Taylor) and his brother and their families. Ile was a hard working family man, loved and missed by his family and many friends. Many people also liked this name Fontaine Earle Drive - Janet Bolin directed me to this info on him at the Encyclopedia or Arkansas History and Culture. He was a major in the Thirty -Fourth Arkansas Infantry from Cane Hill, Washington County. He fought in a number of Civil War battles in the Trans - Mississippi Theater and later served northwest Arkansas as a legislator (1866-1867), minister, teacher, administrator and author. Mecklin Drive - Susan Young works at Shiloh Museum lives in Ward 2(former Ward 4) liked Dave Taylor but also suggested Mecklin Drive for Robert Mecklin, the founder of the Far West Seminary(Civil-War era school)which was located on the present-day site of Razorback Golf Course. Others liked this name Guisinger Drive - John Faucette suggested this name because he said "the Guisinger family has deep roots in Fayetteville, plus an heir still lives in Fayetteville. Louise Sager, and on top of that the Guisinger owned acreage on the Frontage road between the Farm Credit building and Williams Tractor and might have owned the land where the Farm Credit and Tractor place is located. Anyway, the land was the Guisinger Farm as I know it." The over whelming consensus was the name should be either historic, nature, or with local sentiment, and have a nice sound, with "pizzazz. The over whelming consensus also (99.99 percent) said it should NOT be named after a business. One person was for the business name. I also received phone calls stating: Poor Principle to start naming Streets after businesses Slippery slop other businesses will want streets named for them It should be people who have done wonders You did it for this. company why not ours Might as well be Sams Club or Williams Tractor Creek near by (that is Clabber Creek but already we have a lot of Clabber Creek Divisions) Want to thank everyone again for weighing in on this.
