HomeMy WebLinkAbout97-09 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO. 97-09 A RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL TO BE "CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH" IN THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a problem that crosses all ethnic, social and economic lines, and its prevention depends on involvement among people throughout the community; and WHEREAS, most instances of child abuse are not caused by inherently violent or evil people, but by parents who are unable to cope with their tempers in a time of crisis; and WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect not only harm children directly, but also increases the likelihood of long term physical and mental health problems, alcohol and substance abuse, continued family violence and criminal behavior NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS* Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby declares April 2009 as "Child Abuse Prevention Month" in order to bring awareness of this community problem to the City of Fayetteville.
