A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF FURNITURE FOR THE
NEW DISTRICT COURT OFFICES FROM THE NORMAN COMPANY
THROUGH U. S. COMMUNITIES IN THE AMOUNT OF $79,268.36; AND
APPROVING A CONTINGENCY IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000.00.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves
the purchase of furniture for the new District Court Offices from The Norman Company through
U. S. Communities in the amount of $79,268.36.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves a
contingency in the amount of $5,000.

Subject: Approval of furniture purchases for District Court offices in new
District Court Building
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend approval of furniture purchase for District Court & City Prosecutor offices in new
District Court Building. The vendor will be Norman Company, with offices in Fort Smith and
Bentonville.
BACKGROUND
Norman Company is a local participant in U.S. Communities. U.S. Communities is a nonprofit
purchasing cooperative that assists public agencies in reducing the cost of purchased goods and
services through pooling the purchasing power of public agencies nationwide. This cooperative
applies competitive principals which satisfy the competitive solicitation requirements.
DISCUSSION
Within the District Court/Prosecutor Facility budget, there was an amount identified of $150,000 for
furniture purchases. District Court and the City Prosecutor offices carefully assessed the needs of
their respective offices while keeping the target in mind. District Court has determined that their
purchases will be a total of $71,206.71. Norman Company has a one time charge of $1350 for
freight, delivery and installation. There is sales tax of $6711.65, for a grand total of $79,268.36,
within the budgeted amount. We would like to identify a $5000 contingency. Lead time from order
to delivery is expected to be approximately 12 weeks. Norman Co. will warehouse the items in the
case of early delivery or construction delay. Payment will be made using the P Card of the
respective offices, which will result in a 1% rebate at year's end into the fund. The list of furniture
items are attached.
