A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF $24,551.00 IN NEW
EQUIPMENT AND FURNITURE FOR THE CITY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
FROM THE NORMAN COMPANY, PLUS FREIGHT, DELIVERY AND
INSTALLATION CHARGES AND APPLICABLE SALES TAX
WHEREAS, the City Prosecutor's Office needs new and replacement furniture when it
moves into the new Fayetteville District Court and Prosecutor's Office building; and
WHEREAS, the City Prosecutor has reduced its original request based upon the tentative
budget for new furniture and equipment by 56%.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves
the purchase of $24,551.00 in new equipment and furniture for the City Prosecutor's Office from
the Norman Company, plus freight, delivery and installation charges and applicable sales tax.

RE: City Prosecutor's Office Furniture for new building
I believe that the City Council approved a tentative budget of about
$150,000.00 to purchase furniture for the new District Court and Prosecutor
building when it approved its construction. The District Judge and City Prosecutor
equitably divided this amount taking into consideration that the City Prosecutor's
staff is 9 full time equivalents while the District Court is 11.5 and that there is a
somewhat greater need for public furniture for the Court. The original division
was $63,378.70 (including tax, freight, delivery and installation) for the City
Prosecutor and $79,268.36 for the District Court for a total of $142,647.06 which
was within the tentative budget provided for furniture.
The building's budget was set when economic times were better. I am
notoriously cheap and with sales tax receipts still in decline, 1 asked City
Prosecutor Casey Jones to review this proposed expenditure to remove any new
items if their current desk, chair, bookcase or other equipment was serviceable and
could be moved to the new building rather than be replaced. Mayor Jordan and I
also toured the City Prosecutor's Office with City Prosecutor Casey Jones and
Assistant Prosecutor Brian Thomas and inspected their current furniture and
equipment.
Casey and Brian took a hard look at all of their current furniture and.
equipment and were able to make $32,101.54 in reductions out of the initial cost of
$56,652.54 (before freight and taxes). This is over a 56% reduction for which I
thank them.
Thus, instead of requesting $56,652.54 plus freight and installation of
$1,350.00 and taxes of $5,366.16 for a total of $63,378.70, the City Prosecutor's
Office is now requesting $24,551.00 plus a proportionally smaller freight and sales
tax add on. (1 estimate $594.00 for freight and installation and $2,361.10 for sales
tax which would yield a total of $27,506.11 rather than the $63,378.70 initially
requested).
1 can now recommend approval of the City Prosecutor's request for new
and replacement furniture for the new District Court and Prosecutor's
Building in the amount of $24,551.00 plus freight, installation and sales tax.
Attached is a memo from the City Prosecutor showing the items deleted (and those
remaining) from the original $63,378.70 proposed expenditure.
