BACKGROUND The citizens of Fayetteville have expressed interest in the past in developing an off leash dog park. Parks and Recreation Staff held multiple public meetings starting in 2006 to solicit input for location and proposed amenities. An additional 17 acres were added to the west side of Bryce Davis Park in 2008 from the Links development park land dedication requirement. This park will serve as a 26 acre community park for the northwest quadrant of the city, similar to Gulley and Wilson parks. The additional land lends itself to the development of a dog park. Park Staff hosted a general public meeting and attended a Ward 4 meeting to discuss the park expansion and a dog park was suggested at both meetings. DISCUSSION Park Staff has discussed the possibility of a dog park with Procter and Gamble and subsequently they would like to donate funding in the amount of $30,000 at this time towards the development of the dog park. The master plan for Bryce Davis Park is anticipated to be presented to Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in July for approval. Procter and Gamble must process the donation by the end of their fiscal year which is June 30, 2009. Construction of the dog park will be first priority in the development of the park to complete it by June 30th as written in the attached contract. Procter and Gamble reserves the right to name the park pending approval by Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. BUDGET IMPACT The dog park has been incorporated into the overall master plan of the Bryce Davis Park expansion. The park budget is $395,000, from the Northwest Park Land Dedication Fund.
