HomeMy WebLinkAbout107-09 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO. 107-09 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT ADDITIONAL FUNDING THROUGH THE 2007 GULF COAST HIGH INTENSITY DRUG TRAFFICKING AREA GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,000.00 TO SUPPORT INVESTIGATIONS; AND APPROVING A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT RECOGNIZING THE GRANT REVENUE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby authorizes the Fayetteville Police Department to accept additional funding through the 2007 Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Tracking Area Grant in the amount of $20,000.00 to support investigations. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves a Budget Adjustment recognizing this grant revenue. PASSED and APPROVED this 19th day of May, 2009. Discussion: The Gulf Coast HIDTA director has redistributed unspent 2007 grant funds to more effectively manage and expend available funding. These funds are dedicated to providing additional monies for undercover drug purchases. Performing undercover drug purchases is the first step in infiltrating a drug trafficking organization (DTO). This funding will allow our 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force (4th DTF) to develop confidential informants. These informants will be used jointly by the 4th DTF and the Northwest Arkansas HIDTA Task Force to identify and dismantle previously unknown DTO's in our area. Background: Sheriff Helder along with local Chiefs of Police requested our area be included in the Gulf Coast HIDTA to help law enforcement combat the increase of illegal drugs being moved across our local, state and interstate highways. Becoming part of this organization we receive both funding for overtime and information is passed on to our area from other agencies within this organization. Budget Impact: A budget adjustment in the amount of $20,000.00 is attached to recognize both the expense and revenue. RESOLUTION NO. With this reprogramming the Arkansas State Police still has a total of. $182,672 and the Arkansas Highway Police $61,000 in interdiction overtime as well as $127,608 in 2008 and $17,500 in 2009 supplemental DHE funds available for highway interdiction operations.
