Boudreaux, Director, Aviation and Ectnomic Development DATE: March 28, 2008 SUBJECT: Approval of Fayetteville Municipal Airport Name Change to Fayetteville Executive Airport, Drake Field. RECOMMENDATION: Approval of Airport name change. The Airport Board unanimously recommended the change at their meeting of March 14, 2008. BACKGROUND. The Fayetteville airport has been Drake Field for its entire existence. When the commercial aircraft relocated to XNA, Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, the airport changed signs and reemphasized the fact that Drake Field was Fayetteville Municipal as a way to differentiate between the two airports. While the new emphasis on municipal did reduce the number of people arriving in the Drake Field Terminal to pick up passengers or to catch a flight there are still an average of five people or groups, EACH and EVERY DAY, that must be told they are at the wrong airport and it is a 25 minute drive to the Regional Airport. This recommendation was brought to the Fayetteville Airport Board by Dr. Vaughn DeCoster. Dr. DeCoster is a pilot and tenant who owns a single engine aircraft housed in one of the T Hangars. Ile is also a member of the Airport Board representing the pilot community. He brought the recommendation to the Board to help the marketing program being conducted by Million Air Fayetteville and the airport to bring more traffic and activity to the airport. Million Air Fayetteville, the Fixed Base Operator, fully supports the change and has encouraged the airport to approve the recommendation. Dr. DeCoster also emphasized the fact that the airport is functioning as an executive airport. 1 have attached a copy of the slides from his power point presentation recommending the change. Our emphasis over the last several years has been to attract the corporate and business aircraft traveling to Northwest Arkansas to our airport. Our airport has the most convenient Interstate highway access, and provides easy, direct, and timely access to all business centers from Drake Field. Thus our business and corporate traffic continues to increase This measure will reinforce our efforts to attract the business and corporate aircraft. Million Air Fayetteville employs and trains its staff in high level customer service, and emphasizes the care of its customers. `Ladies and Gentlemen serving Ladies and Gentlemen." As a result of this market philosophy, the manpower needed to provide the level of service expected, the cost of amenities provided, etc., the Million Air Fayetteville Team needs to sell a lot of fuel. Ninety percent of fuel sold at Drake Field is jet fuel to corporate and business aircraft. There are many advantages to the name change. First, the new name on the Interstate might help those wanting to catch or meet an airline to go to the right airport saving them and our customer service representatives from the stress and wasted time. The name change though not affecting anything in the Pilot Information Guides, will more accurately reflect the airports current mission and will assist Million Air Fayetteville in attracting business and corporate aircraft. Any additional traffic will help to fund the tower which costs and benefits are recomputed every two years and cost share computations are primarily dependent on traffic. BUDGET IMPACT; Minimal. The State will change the Highway Sign at no cost to the airport. We will wait to replace stationary and business cards until we run out of current supplies.
