When I became Cit) Attorney in March 2001.: immediately re\iewcd all MN office's ongoing expenses and made siunificar.: cuts in cos:s which were dup'ica:i\e or otherwise unnecessary. also instituted my own Departmental Staffing Freeze and have never requested from City Council any increase in personnel during my entire tenure !now over seven +cars). Discussion: The Fayetteville City Prosecutor's Office current1 has ten (10) positions. Through a series of internal promotions the position of Senior Legal Assistant will be filled leaving the need to fill the position of hot check program clerk. The primary function of this position is the daily processing and administration of hot checks submitted by merchants to the City Prosecutor's office for collection. This includes sending warning letters. processing warrant requests as well as preparation of paperwork for trials held at the Fayetteville District Court. CLINTON K. The primary function of this position is to prepare cases that are appealed from Fayetteville District Court to Washington County Circuit Court. This includes preparation of motions/orders and coordination w ith w itncssesiN ictims and Circuit Court staff as well as attend pretrial hearings and trials. lois position also is solely responsible for receiving and reviewing information regarding City ordinance violations from other City departments such as Code Compliance. Planning. Building Safety. etc. This also includes receiving information from Accounting with regards to the collection of overdue IIMR taxes. A responsibility that has resulted in the collection of over 5450.000.00 in ON erduc IIMR taxes while maintaining a positive relationship with the Fayetteville business community. This position is also responsible for supervising the overall preparation of paperwork for cases set in the Fayetteville District Court as well as detailed preparation of all cases of DWI's. Domestic Battery's and Possession of Controlled Substances. Due to increases in the general population of Fayet:evifle as well as growth in the commercial sector combined with corresponding growth in City departments with compliance authority (Fayetteville Police Department, Code Compliance, City Planning, etc.); the number of cases handled by the City Prosecutor's office has increased correspondingly. The court docket currently consists of approximately 300 cases a week, up from an average of 230 (32% increase) for the same period over the last two years. Included are cases that require extensive preparation and treatment, such as Driving While Intoxicated (up 50%) and Domestic Battery (up 65%). Though there are fluctuations from week to week, the overall increase in cases set at the Fayetteville District Court shows no sign of abating CLINTON K. This includes daily contact with citizens, attorneys, various law enforcement agencies, and departments within :he City of Fayetteville as well as outside representatives. The vacancy was created when the current caregiver resigned as she will be relocating to Indiana because of her husband's employment. The caregiver leaving was employed with the city for 6 years The loss of her skills and experience will effect shelter operations. Replacing the full-time caregiver position is vital to continue to provide the shelter animals care 7 days a week, 365 days a year The caregiver staff is not only responsible for the cleaning, feeding, vaccinating, and handling of over 5,000 animals each year, they conduct adoption counseling and assist the Animal Services Officers with the task of euthanasia and loading the incinerator. The division does not have any additional staff members to assist with the caregiver duties. The current caregivers are working additional hours on their scheduled days off to perform essential duties. Although we are utilizing volunteer and community service workers, many of the caregiver duties require trained and certified staff due to health and safety concerns such as handling dangerous animals and zoonotic diseases. The starting salary for this position is $9.53 per hour. Please see the Animal Services Caregiver position description attached for more information.
