A RESOLUTION APPROVING AND ADOPTING POLICY NO. 26.2.1
"NEPOTISM" TO THE FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S
POLICIES, PROCEDURFS & RULES MANUAL.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, hereby
approves and adopts Policy No. 26.2.1 "Nepotism" to the Fayetteville Police
Department's Policies, Procedures & Rules Manual. A copy of the Policy, marked
Exhibit "A," is attached hereto and made a part hereof.

SUBJECT: Policy Addition
Recommendation: Council approve a resolution adding policy 26.2.1 "Nepotism to
the Fayetteville Police Department's Policies, Procedures & Rules manual.
Background: The current Fayetteville Police Department Policies were approved by
council resolution #3-99 on January 5th, 1999.
Discussion:
This policy was modeled after the Fayetteville Fire Department Policy. The Human
Resources Department was consulted when drafting this policy.

I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to define guidelines to follow
concerning Nepotism during situations that involve hiring and
placement within the Fayetteville Police Department. The term
nepotism refers to the practice of showing preferential treatment
to immediate family members in the area of employment.
II. POLICY
A. Procedures
1. The following procedures will apply in relationship to the
practice of nepotism for permanent assignments.
a. No two or more immediate family members shall be permanently
assigned to the same Fayetteville Police Department unit, on the
same shift at the same time.
b. Immediate family is defined as spouse, child, mother,
father, sister, brother, guardian, grandparent, or grandchild.
Other relatives, including relatives by marriage also fall under
the definition of "Immediate Family Member" if the two reside or
have resided in the past in the same household.
c. A member shall not directly supervise an immediate family
member.

d. During the hiring or promotional process, no police department
employee shall interview or review an immediate family member.
e. A family member shall not conduct an annual evaluation for an
immediate family member. Similarly immediate family members may
not directly or indirectly influence the hiring decisions,
disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, promotions,
transfers, scheduling, or any other job or job performance related
determinations of other immediate family members.
