Background: The incumbent Building Services Manager, Coy Hurd, is resigning effective July 31, 2008. Discussion: The Building Services Manager is the responsible for all activities and budget of the Building Services Division. The Building Services Manager is responsible for a staff of 14.5 FTE's and an annual operating budget of $893,000. The position is responsible for the maintenance of 64 City owned building land the janitorial services to 15 buildings. Additionally, the position manages 32 contracts. The most significant of these are the building contracts such as those for the recent design and construction of Fire Stations 3 and 5 and for the current design and soon to be construction of the new Courts Building. The Courts Building is nearing the construction bidding phase and the position is critical for an appropriate and smooth construction phase of this project. As with any significant construction project, an owners representative is a pivotal role; one that must make those timely daily decisions and resolve issues between the plans, the architect and the construction contractor. In addition to normal daily duties, the management of the Courts Building construction phase is of critical importance.
