RECOMMENDATION Resolution to accept a $10,000 grant from Wal-Mart Corporate Giving for the Lights of the Ozarks program. BACKGROUND The City has received $25,000 from A & P for the past four years to purchase new lights and features for the Lights of the Ozarks program. This past spring, A & P did not award funding to any community requests due to the lack of funds. DISCUSSION Last year, Parks and Recreation began to add as many LED lights as possible to the Lights of the Ozarks display. Despite the higher cost, LED lights are better investment because of the lifespan of the bulb and it requires less electricity to power. Parks Staff made the decision to begin replacing lights as funds were available. Mayor Dan Coody initated communication with Wal-Mart to guage interest in providing funds for the Lights of the Ozarks, allowing for the purchase of LED lights. Parks and Recreation submitted a proposal to Wal-Mart Corporate Giving Program, and was awarded a $10,000 grant for this project. BUDGET IMPACT Lights of the Ozarks will have $15,000 less than originally planned for 2008 display. Parks and Recreation will once again submit a request during the fall cycle for A & P Funding, if funds become available.
