BACKGROUND: At the Equipment Committee meeting held February 13, 2007, purchase of one Ford Explorer 4 X 4 as a replacement Police park patrol Explorer was approved. Following that meeting, Chief Tabor asked that we assist his staff in evaluation of a more fuel efficient vehicle for that application. We have reached consensus that a Ford Escape hybrid all wheel drive will serve the needs of the application with approximately half the fuel consumed over the life of the vehicle. Total life cost is approximately 25% less than the Explorer. The Ford Escape hybrid all wheel drive is available through the State vehicle purchase contract from Landers Ford of Little Rock at a cost of $26,066.00. I recommend purchase of one Ford Escape hybrid from Landers Ford in the amount of $26,066.00. Funds are budgeted and available in the 2007 CIP budget, Project 02081, Police/Passenger Vehicles.
