RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Council approve Mr. Vince Chadick as an
appointee to fulfill the remainder of Mr. Tony Wappel's term on the Historic District
Commission.
BACKGROUND
The City Council reinstated the Historic District Commission on May 2, 2007 with the
appointment of seven members by Resolution No. 78-06. One of the members, Tony
Wappel, submitted his resignation from the Commission on January 10, 2007. His term
would have ended in 2009.
Article X, Section 33.227 in the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances states that the Historic
District commissioners shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by the
City Council.
DISCUSSION
Mr. Chadick is a lawyer in Fayetteville and serving his first term as president of the
Washington County Historical Society. His background will diversify and complement
the skills and expertise of the current commissioners.
BUDGET IMPACT
None.

Dear Mayor Coody:
JAN 12 2007
CITY OF FAY:-nEviiia
MAYOR'S OFFICE
1 regret to inform you that I am no longer willing to serve on the city's Historic District Commission. As
a non -self-employed working professional, there are too many conflicts with my work which enable me
to attend the numerous state and national historic district workshops the city has encouraged its
commissioners to attend. Without being able to take time off from my work to attend these meetings (or
even mid-afternoon commission meetings as was the case in December), I am not gaining the valuable
insights needed to be an effective commissioner on the historic district commission and believe an
individual with more free time should take my place.
1 have also told Karen Minkelin a previous email that my main interest in serving was to help establish
the local ordinance district boundaries for the downtown historic district. As the commission has nearly
completed the work in that area and as I am pleased with the direction they have taken, 1 believe now
is the time to step aside and make room for someone with a greater interest in historic preservation
methods and law to take my place. Furthermore, I told Karen that my Dickson Street history (after
nearly 15 years dormancy) is in the process of being published this year and that more of my time is
being required to help oversee final revisions, etc,
I have enjoyed serving the City of Fayetteville and will gladly do so again when 1 am more capable of
doing so more fully.
Sincerely,
Anthony J. appel
