A RESOLUTION TO REDISTRICT WARD TWO AND WARD
FOUR TO EQUALIZE POPULATION WITHIN THE WARDS
PURSUANT TO THE 2006 CENSUS

WHEREAS, a special federal census was conducted within Fayetteville in 2006 resulting
in a total population of 67,158; and
WHEREAS, the 2006 Special Census revealed an imbalance in Ward populations that
should be remedied prior to the 2008 General Election; and
WHEREAS, the transfer of Precinct 3 (bounded by Wedington Drive on the --South,
Garland on the East and I 540 on the North and West) as shown on Exhibit A from Ward Four to
Ward Two will bring all wards to within one percent of a quarter of the city's population and thus
satisfy constitutional mandates for roughly equivalent populations in each ward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1 • The City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves the
redistricting of Fayetteville's Ward 2 and Ward 4 by moving Precinct 3 from Ward Four to Ward
Two as shown on Exhibits A, B. and C attached hereto.
PASSED and APPROVED this 20th day of November, 2007.

Subject: Approval of a Resolution to Redistnct Ward 2 and Ward 4 to achieve a balance
in ward populations.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends an adjustment between Ward 2 and Ward 4 -- moving Precinct 3 out of
Ward 4 and into Ward 2. The population in precinct 3 is 3851 and is located on exhibit A.
Population at the time of 2006 Special Census
Ward 1) 16,631 24.76%
Ward 2) 13,731 20 45%
Ward 3) 16,335 24.32%
Ward 4) 20,461 30.47%
Total: 67,158
Current Ward Population (adjusted for annexations):
Ward 1) 16,637 24.51%
Ward 2) 13,731 20.23%
Ward 3) 16,337 24.06%
