HomeMy WebLinkAbout185-07 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO. 185-07 A RESOLUTION TO PROTECT AND RESTORE RIPARIAN ZONES WHEREAS, the Environmental Concerns Committee was created by the City Council to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the City; and WHEREAS, the Environmental Concerns Committee is charged to make recommendations to the City Council on matters concerning the environment; and WHEREAS, the Environmental Concerns Committee passed a Resolution to protect and restore riparian zones which recommended vigorous enforcement of ordinances and regulations to preserve riparian zones and our water quality (attached). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby recommends and encourages the City Staff to rigorously enforce ordinances and regulations designed to preserve and restore riparian zones along the creeks and rivers within the City and our planning area. Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby recommends that City Staff review existing ordinances to determine whether amendments or new ordinances are necessary to adequately protect our water quality and environment. Section 3: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby recommends that riparian zones along creeks and rivers should be characterized by deep-rooted perennial plants, a dense tree and shrub canopy and abundant wildlife. Section 4: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby recommends that City Staff monitor development within and near riparian zones to ensure all city ordinances designed to protect our streams and rivers and any necessary restoration measures are timely, properly and completely followed.
